Wearing the Academic Distinction Hood

Academic Distinction Quick Reference

BSN graduates are eligible to graduate with Academic Distinction and wear the gold hood over the regalia if both of the following criteria are met:

  • 3.50 or higher GPA in OUHSC Nursing coursework, and
  • 3.50 or higher Overall Cumulative GPA (inclusive of all coursework on the academic record)

Note, students with a 3.75 or higher GPA in both areas noted above are eligible to graduate with Academic Special Distinction.  The same gold hood is worn for either level of distinction.

The photographer will provide the hood during the photography session.  The photographer will not have a list of eligible students.  Students may check with their CON Student Affairs office to confirm eligibility.  Hoods can be purchased for use at graduation through the OU Norman campus bookstore.

MSN and DNP graduates may qualify for Academic Distinction if their OUHSC program coursework is completed with a 3.75 GPA or higher.  The gold hood is not worn by MSN and DNP graduates.  Instead, MSN and DNP graduates will wear their respective degree hoods.
